I flew into JFK about a month ago on a bright shining Sunday morning about 11:30 am...Peeped out the window down on Rockaway beach minutes before landing and knew I'd be a fool not to go straight there solo with my bag. What else was I going to do? Go back to my sweatbox and turn around and go back? As you know JFK is as close as it gets to Rockaway.
At Broad Channel every single one of these cops trailed behind this guy on the opposite set of tracks and followed him all the way to the tip when he started screaming, pacing back and forth, and eventually trying to jump onto the tracks.
It took every one of these cops practically strangling this guy to get cuffs on him, and when they did he screamed bloody murder about how his wrist was "broken" and my personal favorite, "Cracked in half." He also had a lot of screaming to do about his brand new suit. If you've ever been to Broad Channel during the early noon hours on an August Sunday you can imagine about 200 people staring, laughing, shouting, and taking their ever-beloved i-phone pics (As I scrambled for my throwaway camera which looks like shit...But thats beside the point)
After the brief show I bought a two dollar towel (Which eventually turned half my clothes pink when I did my laundry) and cut my pants into shorts, purchased two frost-brew liners which were warm before I even got to the beach and enjoyed a little nap with my plane pillow.

My buddy Alex buzzed me really late and I didn't want to let him in 'cept for the fact that he begged to sleep over because he had lost his keys.
Me: "Alright...Fine... But I got Time-Warner coming over here in a few hours so you can't sleep in the middle of the floor."
My internet had been out for nearly three weeks and one technician had already stopped in declaring, "This looks like a level-3 problem."
He parked under my bed with his legs sticking out.
Two guys showed up around 8:30 AM. A Puerto Rican guy and an Asian guy (Just stating the facts here) The Puerto Rican guy did all the work messing with the airport and the broadband box but the Asian guy never once took his eyes off of Alex and he looked really freaked out. I grabbed a blanket and a towel and threw them over his legs, "Oh don't worry about that..."

(One flick taken before they came cause it just looked funny. I had covered him a little more before they arrived so you could only see feet and jeans. The other after Level-3 fixed my internet.)

While traveling they can make the trip, stuck in the same day to day situation they become bland, almost pathetic. Judge me. Pretend you're on vacation stuck in the same spot. These are some of the last shots from Bulgaria and Paris. I might post a few more of them today or tomorrow as well. They wouldn't leave me alone so I'm putting them up. The girl in the top right is Victoire. I met her on my Flight from New York to Paris before making my connection to BG. She sat next to me. We both drank a bottle of "La Vielle Ferme" 2009 from Ventoux. She told me it was a a shitty wine. It tasted alright to me though.
She wasn't much into new music and we shared headphones listening to one of her dwindling favorites, "Mon Enfance."
We ended up hanging out my first night in Paris and as you can see it was a strong crew. Enough so that later that night sparing many details in between Scott was slapped so hard by an Irish woman that he literally flew out of his chair smacking his head on a stool feet away.
A great night indeed.

Then he goes on to tell me how Donald Bailey gave him drum lessons when he was ten because he begged him after seeing him in San Francisco.

To reduce the swelling and discoloration of a large wack to the elbow I learned that if you put a wrap of chopped onions over night while sleeping it reduces either by about half. On this occasion the store was closed and an old woman told us the next best thing if we're onion-less is slices of potato with salt.

The blind fella on the right (from an explosion 20 years ago) heard us jibber-jabbering about photography and wanted a photo real bad for his kids. No problem, I got you! It's funny because I bought a regular camera as well as a polaroid and you have no idea how everyones eyes bulged out when the prints emerged out of the camera. None of them had ever heard of or seen such a thing. Almost any time I took a shot I took two and gave one away of an almost identical pose. (It meant so much to them. My buddy Dave described it accurately saying it meant as much to them as someone giving him a David Bowie concert ticket) These people put them on top of their mantels above the fireplace, in their teachers lounge, in their 100 year old bar which was bare of any other photos. It was funny to see what would happen when I gave a whole group one photo, and since no one could decide who could keep it they almost always put it up wherever I shot it, for the whole town to see. I'm talking about a town so small every kid knew my name before I got there. Incredibile!
